Spring garden jobs: a month-by-month checklist
March, April, May: each month has its own tasks, and many cannot wait. A full list of spring work for a garden in Estonia.

Spring is the busiest time in the garden, and the order of jobs matters: trees must be pruned before sap rises, and pest treatment cannot be shifted by a month.
March: while the garden still sleeps
- Prune fruit trees and berry bushes: the main task of the month, before buds open - Remove winter covers from roses and conifers gradually, hardening them to the sun - Check where meltwater pools: these spots are clearest in spring
April: the big clean-up
- Clear leaves and winter debris from lawn and beds - Scarify moss and thatch from the lawn; aerate if needed - First nitrogen feed for the lawn - Treat fruit trees against pests at green tip, before flowering - Plant bare-root trees and shrubs: the best window
May: season start
- First cut when grass reaches 8–10 cm - Overseed bare patches - Restart the irrigation system after winter - Plant annuals and mulch beds - Trim evergreen hedges at the end of the month
What is most often forgotten
Pest treatment. Once caterpillars have eaten the leaves it is too late: prevention is done before and right after flowering.
In spring everyone’s schedule is full, including ours: book spring work early. Full spring care packages are ordered from February.
